Mission
The Home Safe Violence Prevention and Advocacy Program at Arizona State University is dedicated to preventing violence by raising awareness and knowledge about sexual and relationship violence and promoting services that offer support to survivors.
Agency Overview
Established as a program of Arizona State University’s Wellness and Health Promotion in 2003, Home Safe was created to foster a safe and respectful environment at ASU. Statistics of sexual and relationship violence at ASU reflect national statistics and violence trends, and we recognize the necessity of providing accessible violence prevention services to the ASU community. Currently staffed by two Program Coordinators, three Student Workers, and ten Student Volunteers, Home Safe provides a variety of programs and services that focus on breaking the silence surrounding these issues.
Description of Programs/Services
Presentations: We provide presentations to classes, student groups, and departments on Sexual Violence and Healthy Relationships.
Student Involvement Opportunities: We provide opportunities for students to get involved as Peer Advocates, Peer Educators, Interns, Student Workers, and Student Volunteers. Students develop and implement awareness events, staff tables to answer questions and promote our programs and services, and assist with presentations. All students involved with the Home Safe Program attend a mandatory forty hour training before each fall semester, and a mid-year refresher training before the spring semester.
Social Marketing: We create social marketing campaigns that focus on what consent is and is not. These campaigns are in the forms of posters placed in residential halls, classrooms, and other public spaces on the ASU campus, and ads placed in the campus newspaper.
Bulletin Board Information: We have created informational kits that can be arranged and placed on bulletin boards across campus. These kits include information about consent, resources for survivors, information about Home Safe programs and services, and information about how to get involved with Home Safe.
Brochures: We place brochures with information about sexual assault and healthy relationships in various brochure racks across campus.
